Asante Akim Multipurpose Community
Telecentre (AAMCT)

The
AAMCT employs computer-equipped training facilities to provide education
and health-related training to the people in the district. It is an
exercise to empower rural communities and promote the social, cultural
and economic growth of the people in the Asante Akim district.
The
AAMCT provides adult education and
services. This includes adult basic education (ABE) classes, life-long
learning opportunities, basic computer comfort (to introduce people to
the keyboard, the mouse, how to turn the machine on and off, and some
basic applications which will enable adults to use the computer without
supervision and prepare them for more advanced computer training in the
future, mentoring younger people, telecommunications contact with
relatives and friends, financial planning assistance, and health care
and other services information.
The
AAMCT provides career development and job preparation services. This
service includes both job skills training and job search activities. Job
skills training includes classes teaching basic computer literacy,
keyboarding skills, word processing, graphics applications,
spreadsheets, databases and other office skills classes.
Job search activities include resume writing workshops and
classes teaching interviewing skills.
The
AAMCT helps prepares people to meet the increasing computer needs of
schools, business, and industry by providing skills in microcomputers,
operating systems, database management, word processing, spreadsheets,
office skills, the world wide web, PC troubleshooting.
The training material is based on proven educational techniques
and prepares information technology
(IT) professional for tests leading to designations such as the
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) for Windows 2000, Cisco
Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional
(CCNP), Certified Novell Administrator (CAN), Certified Novell Novell
Engineer (CNE), Certified Internet Professional (CIP), Oracle Certified
Professional (OCP), and A+.

The
Health Centre at the AAMCT provides community health screening, medical
counseling, STD treatment, HIV/ AIDS testing, family planning and access
to contraceptives to patients who come from all over the country. The
Health Centre is managed by two trained nurses, a pharmacist, and a
mobile health team from Agogo hospital.
The
AAMCT’s Centre for Indigenous Healing (CIH) provides treatment for
diseases such as cancer (all forms), diabetes, asthma, sexually
transmitted diseases, and reproductive-related illnesses.
Of
the 17 rooms at the Centre, eleven have been fully completed. One of the
rooms serves as the Centre’s IT training centre. Equipped with 10
computers, an overhead, slide, and a data projector, it is capable of
handling most training needs. The e-mail/Internet room at the Centre is
equipped
with two printers (both desk jet and laser), a flatbed scanners, a
camcorder, and a digital camera. It
offers voice, Internet, e-mail,
and data services to the general public.
The
AAMCT has an 8 bedroom Bed & Breakfast facility.
The facility provides accommodation and food to guests who stay
at the facility.
The
day-to-day operation of the centre is in the hands of a Centre Director,
who oversees the activities of the Centre.
A technical coordinator, and five administrative assistants
assist the Centre Director in running the AAMCT. Two instructors teach
various information technology-related courses such as the Microsoft
office suite (MS Access 2000/XP, MS Excel 2000/XP, MS Word 2000/XP, MS
PowerPoint 2000/XP, MS Publishing 2000), Coral Draw, Computer Hardware,
Networking Essentials, and Website Development.
