Welcome to Patriensa, Ghana,
West Africa . . . one of the world's first digitized villages! |
||||
|
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are crucial to societies that expect to enter and participate in the 21st-century age of information. But ICTs, and the sustainable solar energy needed to power them, are mostly unknown in rural Africa. The mission of the Asante Akim Multipurpose Community Telecentre is to bring the benefits of information and communication technologies to rural communities in Ghana. We seek to empower rural Ghanaians with the ability to apply information and communication technologies to their own social and economic development. View panoramic movies of the village.
The
Santa Barbara (California) Association for
UNESCO, in partnership with other academic, government, and religious
organizations, is proposing to support development of a model project for
dissemination of solar energy, solid state lighting, and ICTs. Beginning
in Patriensa, Asante Akim district, Ghana, this initiative will spread
appropriate technologies to the villages of Asante Akim, of Ghana, and of
other parts of Africa.
